Our Dreams

We have big dreams for NACHU, but we also know this ministry is in God's hands.  His divine plan goes far before ours.  We look to Him for our direction and submit everything to Father God. He has NACHU in the palm of His mighty hand and His plan is bigger and better than anything we can dream ourselves!

We are in the process of simply establishing monthly support so this ministry can be sustained at the level they are currently operating (34 children living at NACHU).  Once we have established this monthly support with a small  reserve for medical bills and emergencies, we will launch prayerfully into a growth period.  We believe so fervently in God's provision and plan for this authentic, family-grown ministry!

Our priorities are as follows:

1. NACHU facility/home/headquarters.  Currently, the NACHU family lives in a rented home on a small compound.  James and Norah dream of building their own children's village on their own property.  This would allow for more children to become part of NACHU; finding safety, shelter, love, and family within their walls.

James and Norah dream of building a much larger ministry, serving many more orphans in their local community.  This will happen in baby steps, perhaps starting with a larger rented space and praying for growth from there.

A larger, more appropriate property would also allow NACHU to expand into serving as many families as possible both effectively and efficiently, giving adequate space for outreach and provision.

We dream of a place that looks like a community, not an orphanage.  We believe in the value of family and dream of establishing several smaller 'family' units, employing local Christian women to care for group of children in smaller, simple homes.

We also need to establish staff members who assist in the daily tasks and service projects.  Currently, there are a small number of close Ugandan friends who help James and Norah, but they are volunteering their time.  It is our passion to see these loving people  receive a fair wage so they can provide for their families and invest in NACHU on a deeper level.

The space they are currently in is not large enough and the reality is, the longer it takes us to expand, the more children we must turn away.

Growth and building is a priority and a daily prayer.

2. NACHU Garden and LivestockWe dream of a sustainable garden and livestock area where NACHU can grow their own food and also grow food to share with the orphan children and struggling families in their community.  This would be a huge benefit to NACHU, as the cost of food has risen over the past few years.  It would also provide the opportunity for practical training for the children and local families in farming techniques and various life skills.

3. A NACHU SchoolCurrently, all the children of school age at NACHU attend semi-private schools.  NACHU pays for this, and it is our highest cost of operating the whole of Nurture a Child Uganda.  School fees in Uganda are very costly, which is often the reason so many children do not attend school.  They miss out on the chance to learn reading, writing, mathematics, and the chance to learn trades and attend post-secondary education.  They also feel isolated from the other children in their community and lose hope for the future.

A proper education truly is the best way out of the cycle of poverty. Unfortunately, so many children don't even have a fighting chance. We have dreams to change this for as many children as possible.

The building of a NACHU School would do many things:

1. Offer a high quality, Christian place of learning for NACHU's live-in children.

2. Offer a high quality, Christian place of learning for many local orphan children and children of families who cannot afford school fees or school needs and supplies.

3. Effectively use the funds we are currently putting towards outside school fees to better serve the community of Soroti.

4. Offer employment to local teachers and care givers in the NACHU community.

5. Offer Christian teaching, love, meals and a safe place to vulnerable children in the Soroti area.

4. NACHU Mobile Health Clinic and Pediatric Clinic.  James and Norah have seen all too closely the devastation of malnutrition, disease, and childhood illnesses that plague their region and their children.  They dream of partnering with a local doctor and/or nurse to offer orphaned children and marginalized families free health care.  This could include a Mobile Health Clinic or Pediatric Health Clinic within the NACHU village and home.Through this ministry, children who otherwise would not receive care will be cared for and nurtured with love and acceptance.  There is no end to where this dream could lead.  This could very literally be a life-saving ministry.

5. NACHU Arts Outreach Program.  James and Norah and several friends have developed impeccable skills for crafting beautiful jewelry and artisan products.  They dream of sharing their skills with marginalized women, allowing them to learn a new trade while earning an income through a NACHU Arts Outreach Program.  This would allow NACHU Canada to continue selling our popular Seed Beed Project jewelry, while employing women who otherwise would not have income.  The profits would be invested back into NACHU.  It truly is win-win, and we are prayerfully considering what this might look like!

Pray for us as we make plans for growth and consider partnering with us from the ground up.

"I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of." John 10:9-10

Our dream for every child - that they would know the love of Jesus, the joy of family, and a future filled with hope and purpose.
